The Prevention of Pollution of the Sea (Oil) Regulations formulate requirements to be satisfied in order to register National vessels and to control maritime operation aiming to avoid oil Pollution of the Sea. These Regulations are related to the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea Order (2005), and consist of 7 chapters, including: General (Chapter I); Surveys and Certification (Chapter II); Requirements for Machinery Spaces of all Ships (Chapter III); Requirements for the Cargo Area of Oil Tankers (Chapter IV); Prevention of pollution arising from Oil Pollution Incident (Chapter V); Reception Facilities (Chapter VI); Special Requirements for Fixed or Floating Platforms (VII).

Regulation 6: Surveys. 1 Every oil tanker of 150 gross tonnage and above, and every other ship of 400 gross tonnage and above shall be subject to the surveys specified below: --- Regulation 15: Control of discharge of oil. The Administration shall ensure that the system fully complies with the requirements of this regulation within one year after the tanker was first engaged in the trade of carrying crude oil or by the end of the third voyage carrying crude oil suitable for crude oil washing, whichever occurs later.
