Overall Summary: 
The Petroleum and Petroleum Product Law repeals the Petroleum Act 1934. The Law contains the provisions on import and export, transportation, storage, refinery, distribution, inspection and testing of petroleum and petroleum products and issuance of relevant licenses.
Governance
Energy management principles: 
7. The Ministry of Commerce shall carry out the following functions relating to any Petroleum and Petroleum product: a. issuing licences relating to import or export; b. prohibition not to import or export from the other places except from the places stipulated for import or export; c. determining procedures, and conditions relating to import or export; d. determining period, form and conditions, means of applying licence, fees to be assessed and conditions necessary for any other matters.
Energy institutional structures: 
4. The Ministry shall, with the approval of the Union Government, form the Supervisory Committee on petroleum and petroleum product business activities comprising with maximum 15 members, including the representatives of the ministries concerned, to systematically supervise petroleum and petroleum product business activities.
