VOLUNTARY COMPLIANCE WITH MINIMUM ENERGY

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND LABELLING (MEPSL) FOR AIRCONDITIONERS

With the high cost of electricity generation and the continual growth of household electrical appliance ownership in Fiji, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Department of Energy (DoE) promotes and encourages voluntary compliance with MEPSL for Air-Conditioners for the purpose of retail or import. The applicable standards are AS/NZS 3823.1.1:2012, AS/NZS 3823.1.2:2012, AS/NZS 3823.1.3:2005, AS/NZS 3823.1.4:2012 and AS/NZS 3823.2:2013.

MEPSL helps reduce energy use and related greenhouse gas emissions by ensuring that energy efficient products are available in the market and affixed with energy rating labels as outlined below:

This also provides a basis for consumers to compare the energy performance of different models and take into account the average electricity usage costs and as such make informed decisions on purchase.
