Overall Summary: 
The policy establishes regulatory framework for protection of the environment concentrating primarily on the abatement of air pollution. With a view to facilitate transition towards a low-carbon pattern of growth, the policy imposes control measures for industrial processes, tightens norms and standards for emissions of harmful substances. As provided by art.1, atmospheric air is the national wealth of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regulatory efforts thereby aim to ensure comprehensive protection of air resources. --- The policy came into force in 1996.
Environment
Energy environmental priorities: 
Art. 24. Underscoring positive association between energy and the environment, the policy stresses the need for broader deployment of energy-conserving, cleaner and more efficient technologies, conservation of fuel resources, and accelerating renewable energy in Uzbekistan. --- Art. 6-11 set standards and norms for permissible levels of air pollutants, tighten control over emissions of hazardous substances. The principle environmental regulator – the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Nature Conservation – establishes norms for the usage of air by industrial enterprises. ---- Art. 10 regulates emissions from mobile sources of air pollution. Under Art. 11, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Nature Conservation issues air quality permits to stationary sources of air pollution. ---- Art. 8. The Committee and the Health Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan set norms limiting the amount of pollutants emitted to the atmosphere by stationary sources.
Governance
Energy institutional structures: 
Art. 5 stipulates that regulatory control of air pollution is carried out by the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Nature Conservation, and local authorities.
