The $11.7 million Business Energy Advice Program (BEAP) delivers trusted advice to help small businesses and their representatives get better energy deals and increase their energy efficiency.
How does the program work?
The program provides 2 free services for eligible small businesses:
Business Energy Advice
An energy advisory service that delivers face-to-face, phone and digital advice to small businesses across Australia. This service helps small businesses understand their energy savings opportunities, choose the best energy plan for their business, and receive tailored advice on energy efficiency opportunities best suited to their industry.
Small Business Energy Check
An energy spend benchmarking tool that allows small businesses to compare their energy spend against similar businesses in their industry and region. The purpose of the tool is to provide information on whether they are paying too much for their energy. The data which underpins this tool supports a ‘true’ comparison based on business type, location and other relevant characteristics. It can be used on its own, or in conjunction with a Business Energy Advice consultation.
Who is eligible for advice?
Small businesses with between 6 and 20 employees qualify for a free Business Energy Advice consultation. The service is available to small businesses in all Australian states and territories. Small businesses with 5 or fewer staff that have been adversely affected by drought are also eligible.
I have a small business – how do I get advice?
You can register for a free Business Energy Advice consultation by calling 1300 415 224 or visiting businessenergyadvice.com.au. If your business has more or fewer employees, you can still access helpful resources from the website. Information on reducing your energy use is also available on energy.gov.au for small businesses.
The Small Business Energy Check tool is available at checkyourenergyspend.com.au. It's tailored for small businesses with up to 20 staff, operating anywhere in Australia. You can use it as many times as you like, no registration is required. It can also be used by advisers to small business, such as accountants, bookkeepers and energy experts.
With a recent energy bill and some basic information about your industry and business size in hand, completing the check takes a couple of minutes.
