Overall Summary: 
The present Law establishes an all-encompassing framework for environmental sustainability in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The thematic issues addressed specifically by the Law include mainstreaming environmental security in national development strategies, reinforcing long-term international partnerships, ensuring coherence of national environmental policies, undertaking measures for nature conservation and mitigation of adverse negative anthropogenic impacts. Focus areas include protection of the atmosphere, space, water and subsoil resources, conservation and restoration of flora and fauna. --- The formulation of environmental policies, plans and programmes is carried out in coherence with provisions of the Constriction of the Republic of Azerbaijan, other legislative acts on environmental protection. It is stipulated that the Republic of Azerbaijan reiterates its commitments under international treaties. --- The Law encompasses measures to ensure effective and wide participation of all relevant stakeholders through strengthening cooperation and liaison mechanisms.
Environment
Energy environmental priorities: 
Given the interlinkages between the economic and environmental dimensions of growth, the policy seeks to promote environmental – and more specifically energy - sustainability. The policy restrains the economic activities related to radioactive pollution, posing risks to human health, spreading infections and biothreats. --- Art. 2.1 places an emphasis on the issue of sustainable use of natural resources, with that, requires the relevant regulatory bodies – within existing national institutional frameworks – to facilitate the introduction of sustainable practices. --- Art. 4.3 stipulates that unsustainable exploration and utilization of natural resources have adverse implications for environmental security. The article underscores the need for ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
Governance
Energy institutional structures: 
Art. 5 states that the National Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the Environment and the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources – within the framework of its mandate – shall develop and facilitate implementation of the national environmental program. As provided by the article, regulatory efforts are focused on environmental monitoring and assessment, information support and building public awareness on environmental issues. The Committee is responsible for the development and enforcement of standards and technical norms. --- As a specialized national body, the National Centre of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Standardization and Metrology supports the development of metrological capacities.
