Joint National Action Plan 2 on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management (JNAP 2) 2018-2028 sets out six policy objectives and targets and an implementation strategy for the country to achieve its vision of a Resilient Tonga by 2035. JNAP2 is aligned with the Tonga Climate Change Policy and covers both climate change adaptation and disaster risk management.

Efficiency

Приоритеты ЭЭ:

Tonga is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector principally by increasing its utilisations of [...] and energy efficient technologies.

EE targets:

Tonga also plans to improve energy efficiency through reduction of electricity line losses from 18% in 2010 to 9% by 2020.

Renewable Energy

RE priorities:

Tonga is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector principally by increasing its utilisations of renewable sources of energy such as solar [...].

RE targets:

Tonga aims to achieve 50% of electricity generation from renewable sources by 2020 and 70% by 2030.

Environment

Energy environmental priorities:

Tonga is working to reduce its reliance on oil imports, and to respond to the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, targeting a much cleaner energy through its nationally determined contributions (NDC, 2015) and the Climate Change Policy (to achieve a Resilient Tonga by 2035).
